The risk of COVID-19 is real.

Get the facts about the vaxx before you decide.

COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective. The FDA determined that four COVID-19 vaccines — Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, Novovax, and Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen passed their clinical trials and met their safety and effectiveness standards. Pfizer and Moderna are the most recommended and commonly available in the United States. COVID-19 vaccine safety monitoring has been the most extensive in U.S. history. None of the vaccines contain eggs, gelatin, latex, preservatives, or manufactured products. All COVID-19 vaccines are free from metals such as iron, nickel, cobalt, lithium, and rare earth alloys. Vaccines are recommended for pregnant women and breastfeeding women.

COVID-19 vaccines help our bodies develop immunity to the virus that causes COVID-19, without us having to get sick from the illness. Vaccines provide the body with a supply of “memory” white blood cells as well as other white blood cells that will remember how to fight that virus in the future.

Recent studies show that protection against the virus may decrease over time. Everyone has received a vaccination should get a booster shot. Check with your provider for their recommendation on the timing of these booster shots.

Vaccination is now recommended for everyone ages 6 months and up. Vaccinating children can help protect them from getting severely sick if they do get infected.

(mRNA) Vaccines – (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna) contain a synthetic version that instruct our cells to remember how to make a harmless protein that is unique to the virus. Our cells then make copies of the protein and destroy the genetic material from the vaccine. Our bodies will remember how to fight the virus that causes COVID-19 when and if we encounter it in the future. Vector vaccines (Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen) contain a piece of a modified virus that is not the virus that causes COVID-19. This modified virus, or vector virus, cannot reproduce itself, so it cannot cause COVID-19. This vector virus gives instructions to cells in the body to create an immune response. J&J is only recommended under certain circumstances. Protein subunit vaccines (Novavax) contain pieces (the spike protein and adjuvant) of the virus that causes COVID-19. The adjuvant helps the immune system respond to that spike protein in the future to protect against COVID-19.
